Again, this is a bit more of a personal post but I wanted to go through some brand me things and well some personal life things too.
I'll start with the career update. Now as we looking into what brand me includes, it should include a CV, digital portfolio and reflection diary (this). It also should make us think about where we would like to head in the future or at least what our current plans are.
I would love to ideally be in a full time job by October 2022. I have been doing university work for 3 years of my life and my part time job (which sometimes is more full time) for 4 years, over that university time too. I think I would like to say I deserve a little bit of a summer. To hopefully enjoy the sunshine and warmth and to have a proper break before starting my career officially.
Over the past 2 years really I have gained the most experience. I am truly so proud of myself for taking time and opportunities to develop my own skills. I have done a three month marketing internship at the Skinny Food company in Nottingham, a two week buying intern placement at Bravissimo in Leamington Spa and have been the content creator for the Body Shop Bridlesmith Gate store for the last two years. All of this experience has led me to not only develop my own personal self but also to develop my skills effectively so when I go into the real world I am more prepared.
Some of the jobs I see myself include;
- Marketing assistant
- social media content creator
- visual merchandising assistant
- PR assistant
Within these roles, I feel like I have managed to get relevant experience to fit and with the different industries I have been able to get opportunities in have also decided which industries I would like to pursue as part of my career. This has focus with the beauty and lifestyle industry. From doing my final year projects on women's health, in a way I feel a responsibility to help women to reduce any shame or embarrassment stigma's which is so substantial still at the moment. I have enjoyed my project so much and not only do I feel an emotional connection to it I feel like I could really help change things in the world to empower women.
So leading on to my bigger news. from reaching out on LinkedIn, I have been in contact with HeyGirls. This brand is a UK and Australia based women's health company which helps women and girls all over the world by helping to end period poverty. As this was the route that I can see myself in the future I reached out about any possible opportunities after I finish my degree. the lovely CEO got back to me and said actually they would love to have me onboard now. I am super grateful for this opportunity and as such my position will be creating social media content for both Instagram accounts to help rebrand the brand as well as educate more women and break current myths. In the future they also hope to run a TIK TOK which I think would be amazing and I am super excited to work on.
I am truly so happy that by doing this project it has allowed me opportunities to not only develop my skills but also to work within a field I see my own values and personality aligning with. In a way this was bittersweet, from my diagnosis in 2019 I remember how ashamed and isolated I felt that by creating this brand and where I am now I truly do not know what other topic I would have been focusing on. As I've said in a previous post I would love to help women by possibly creating this brand as I know I would have loved it for myself.
So this effectively has developed my brand me and my CV which I'm just super grateful for and I think is starting my career off in the right direction.
